Ten players from Eritrean football team have refused to return home after playing a World Cup Qualifying match in Francistown on 13th October 2015. The players are now seeking political asylum and have been detained at the Centre for Illegal Immigrants in Francistown awaiting their status hearing set for 11th December 2015.
The players presented themselves to the Botswana Government officials in Francistown on 14th October 2015 seeking political asylum.
They are represented by Dick Bayford who has been engaged by Eritrea Movement for Democracy and Human Rights based in South Africa while Thato Mojaji appeared for government.
